ARTWORK: The Tree of Prosperity, a pine tree, embellished with 12 diamonds, stands upon a covering of glistening snow. The number 12 promises health and safety for every month of the year. Nearby are two adult and two young "dinodeer," representative of prehistoric animals. The father safeguards the playful older son and the others. The mother, with a satisfied, pleased look in her eyes, nurtures and gazes down at her newborn "dinodeer." The kneeling newborn, in accepting its mother’s nurturing, symbolizes an act of gratitude and filial devotion, and the posture of mother and child is almost reminiscent of a pieta. Each of Sheng-Shan Hsu’s works may take three to six months to complete.
Situated in front of the artwork is a 24K gold name plate. The front is engraved with the title of the artwork, names of the artists (father and son), and the year of creation/copyright. Engraved on the
reverse side are the birth places, signatures, and the fingerprints of both artists and the location of
creation. A circular opening in the lower right corner of the name plate allows a gold wire to connect
the name plate to the Tree of Prosperity by its roots.
