ARTWORK: The gnarled trunk in sterling silver has been specially treated
to
create a remarkable chiaroscuro. The 128 blossoms of pure gold are embellished
with diamonds and tinged with pale pink which radiates vitality are surrounded
by tiny painted buds and leaves. The number 128 is the equivalent in Chinese and
Taiwanese of saying 1-2-Succeed! The butterflies, made with one of the finest
calibers of wire, making its manipulation a painstaking feat, have wings of
sterling silver, touched with white particles to simulate the diaphanous,
mesmerizing quality of butterfly wings. This very quality intrigues us- makes us
want to know more. The slightest breeze will trigger the movement of the
vibrant, delicate wings. The butterfly's thin legs remain steadfast, though the
wings tremble-a difficult accomplishment for the artists. This fragility and
strength are typical of the message of the piece and also indicate the artists's
mastery of the architectual challenge of blending these contrasting forces into
